North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson poses with Ilene Evanson and Marv Baker during a trip to visit North Star Farms and the farmers' market in Carpio.
Educational Opportunities
We are committed to education as we continue growing organic produce and expanding our farm. We intend to share what we learn through this Web site to provide a better understanding of organic production to consumers and growers.

The Internet
The Internet is a wonderful tool for research and from our farm in northwestern North Dakota, we can tap into this electronic library that has no limits. The University of California-Davis, the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture, the Peanut Bureau of Canada and Alaska Department of Agriculture Web sites have been extremely helpful thus far in the success of our farm.

Agri-Tourism
Agriculture Web sites are great for research and analysis, but they'll never replace the on-farm experience. Although North Star Farms is small by North Dakota standards, we invite tours to take a first-hand look at what we grow organically, why we grow it and why it is better for your body and the environment.

'You Can't Grow That in North Dakota'
Because there's such a naive perception of what won't grow in North Dakota, we are always quick to showcase our unusual crops and prove that we can grow a lot more than the general public realizes. Not only will we point out our "impossible" crops like peanuts, tobacco and sweet potatoes, we will tell you how and why they can thrive in the Des Lacs River Valley.
