About Us
Established 2004
This year, North Star Farms is celebrating 13 years in business after beginning at Carpio, North Dakota in July 2004 to help supply family and friends with fresh, naturally grown garden produce. Family members liked our produce so much the plot was expanded to a 1-acre field next to the Des Lacs River that same summer. In 2010 we added an additional 2.5 acres to keep pace with the demand for fresh, certified organic garden produce.

Increased production – better efficiency

2013 was an incredible growing season at North Star Farms that started out slow and later exploded in phenomenal growth. In the month of September alone, we harvested more than 11,000 pounds of produce, which was slightly more than we harvested all of 2011. Our total harvest last year was down to about 13,000 pounds primarily because flooding drowned our pumpkins, watermelons and many squash. As long as nature doesn't interfere, our increased efficiency has allowed us to support up to 63 CSA families and take additional produce to the North Prairie Farmers' Market in Minot. Expect a full complement of produce in 2017 as we eagerly anticipate breaking that psychological 20,000-pound mark in a season.

Location
The farm is located 26 miles northwest of Minot, and 20 miles west of the Minot Air Force Base in Ward County. U.S. Highway 52, North Dakota Highway 28 and Ward County Road No. 6 intersect at Carpio. A main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway also runs through town.

49th Parallel Produce
North Star Farms is 40 miles south of the Canadian border and 90 miles southeast of the regional Canadian community of Estevan, Saskatchewan. It is located in the Des Lacs River Valley, which runs northwest to southeast from the international boundary to its confluence with the Souris River just outside of Minot.
